DD Fitness: Is red meat really bad for your health?

first_imgA new study that came out last week had some surprising findings. The controversial study claimed that there is currently no significant evidence that eating red meat, including processed meat, is bad for our health. As you can imagine, the media jumped on this and the headlines across the globe were all telling us that red meat isn’t bad for us. Social media went into a frenzy as meat-eaters rejoiced and non-meat eaters claimed that the study was nonsense. Here’s the thing; The study in question isn’t actually a single study.A team of researchers got together and conducted a series of 5 systematic reviews of all the current evidence that looked at red meat consumption and our health. What the results found wasn’t that there was no evidence, more that it was uncertain as to whether it was enough to link red meat consumption to adverse health effects.“Adherence to dietary patterns lower in red or processed meat intake may result in a decreased risk for all-cause mortality, cardiometabolic disease and mortality, and cancer morbidity and mortality.Nevertheless, the magnitude of these effects for all outcomes is small to very small, and the certainty of the evidence is low to very low. Our results, therefore, raise questions about the plausibility of red and processed meat being causally related to adverse health outcomes”So, that means you are free to eat as much as you want with no health effects, right? Not really. While they haven’t been able to find a direct link to red meat and poor health, they aren’t saying that it isn’t harmful. They stated that the current levels of evidence aren’t enough to make any recommendations about red meat at all.If you are confused as to why they can’t give a yes or no answer, it is because it isn’t that easy to do.In order to get an answer like that, you would have to have control of hundreds of people and their diets and then split them into meat-eating and non-meat-eating groups and then get data from them for years. The cost to do this would be too high and you would never get people to allow you to control what they ate for a prolonged period of time. What then does this mean for us meat-eaters?Simply put, if you want to eat red meat, it probably isn’t as harmful to your health as previously thought. But, if you want to stick to the previous guidelines about it, you are fine to do that also. The main takeaway from this, as always should be to look at your diet as a whole, rather than worrying about individual foods or food groups.Ensure you are eating plenty of fruits and vegLimit your consumption of high calorie processed foodsDrink water as your main fluidsEat fish/oily fish 2-3 times per week Eat lean cuts of meat as your main meat sourcesThis isn’t new information, but it always needs to be said and reminded because no matter how much new information comes out about nutrition, the basics never change.#leanin2019If you want some help with how to plan out a balanced diet that gets real results in time for the Christmas Party Season, our LITTLE BLACK DRESS CHALLENGE 2019 starts on October 29th.It’s an 8-week program that is guaranteed to get you in shape for the Christmas Party Season.Click the link below to get signed up now.CLICK HERE TO BOOK YOUR PLACE!DD Fitness: Is red meat really bad for your health? was last modified: October 11th, 2019 by Emmet RusheShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:emmett rushefitnesslast_img read more

first_imgAfter a well-played but otherwise unremarkable Game 4, Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer was asked how he felt about the series.DeBoer chuckled, amused at the question.“Youʼre in the Western Conference final, you know 2-2, against a really good team.I feel pretty good. We have home-ice advantage. Yeah…, I feel good,” DeBoer said.Knowing his team would be disappointed after the Blues tied the series, the coach once again sent the right message. DeBoer essentially was telling his team: feel good, …last_img read more

Altech in African fibre network deal

first_img30 January 2013South Africa’s Allied Technologies (Altech) Group has acquired an 8.6% initial interest worth US$16.5-million in London-headquartered telecommunications company Liquid, with the aim of expanding its networking footprint and creating the largest single fibre network in Africa. The planned network will span South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.“The efficiencies this will create will be considerable and will enable the interconnectivity of the continent in a manner previously unachievable,” Altech said in a statement on Tuesday.Altech specialises in telecommunication, multimedia and information technology convergence.“Enterprises will, in many cases for the first time, be able to obtain point-to-point connectivity between a virtually unprecedented number of African countries.“The network will provide reliable, high-speed, cost-effective connectivity to carriers, mobile operators, internet service providers (ISPs), financial institutions and businesses of all sizes.”The acquisition of a stake in Liquid followed losses in Altech’s East African operations. “The Liquid transaction opens up a positive new chapter for Altech, in partnership with a group with proven expertise in its sector,” said Altech’s chief executive officer, Craig Venter. The deal also means speeding up work on fibre networks in Africa.“Liquid has been building and investing in a high-quality pan-African fibre network for many years, and this deal will accelerate our progress by enlarging our network footprint,” said Liquid’s chief executive officer, Nic Rudnick.“We are a strong and ambitious company and have a long-term investment plan for the region.“The compatibility and complementary nature of Liquid and Altech are important features of this strategic alliance – notably with regard to the use of Altech’s multimedia technologies and products, as we extend our value chain to the retail data markets in Africa,” Rudnick said.SAinfo reporterlast_img read more

iPhone’s Flash Apps: Let the Games Begin

first_img8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Early this morning at the MAX 2009 Conference, Adobe previewed Flash Professional CS5 and announced that the new release will let Flash developers export their files as iPhone apps. The significance of this announcement is that development time for thousands of Flash-based gaming and music companies will be cut significantly. In the past, developers have had to create separate iPhone apps and web-based tools. While this is not the Flash plugin for Safari that many have asked for, the closed-beta version of Flash Professional CS5 eliminates the need for separate iPhone development. In other words, developers avoid building their applications twice. Lumosity, a learning games community with more than 1 million members and a Flash-based iPhone portal, is particularly excited to see the CS5 announcement. Said resident game designer Ben Katz, “We release new products every month. This is an interesting solution that Adobe’s decided to pursue, and so far it looks like the transition will be smooth. Our development time will depend on whether these applications actually look and feel like native apps.” High-traffic Flash-based gaming communities like Lumosity, Newgrounds and PopCap Games will be some of the first groups to utilize Flash’s Low Level Virtual Machine compiler infrastructure. If these groups really do find the Flash customization as easy as it sounds, Adobe will be opening the floodgates to casual gaming. PopCap’s titles alone have been downloaded more than 1 billion times by consumers worldwide. With reduced development time, it will be interesting to see the fortunes amassed by gaming houses. Some of the light games that have already been created using CS5 include Chroma Circuit, Fickleblox and Just Letters.
