NOWDOC STAFF WILL BE MOVED TO BALLYBOFEY – DEAL COVERED BY CROKE PARK AGREEMENT

first_imgThe HSE is currently engaging with NoWDOC staff and their union representatives in relation to the redeployment of NoWDOC receptionist staff to other HSE services in Co Donegal, the Irish Medical Times is reporting today. The HSE has told the paper today that redeployment of the co-op staff from four centres in Co Donegal to just one in Ballybofey fell under the Croke Park Agreement and was a separate issue to the current review of service provision, which the GPs were carrying out.The HSE wants to redeploy reception staff from outreach centres in Carndonagh, Letterkenny, Derrybeg and Mountcharles in Donegal to Ballybofey, In a statement the HSE told the paper: “GPs have not submitted any proposal regarding changes in the provision of NoWDOC services to the HSE for consideration and therefore it would be premature for the HSE to make further comment at this time.”Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill said today: “I understand that the HSE is awaiting proposals from the GPs on what alternatives they would propose. However, it is my firm belief that there can be no downgrading whatsoever of the NoWDOC services in rural areas, given the fact that these areas are up to 80 miles from Letterkenny General Hospital.“I am calling on the Minister for Health to intervene to ensure that emergency access to GP care is maintained at all centres in Co Donegal. I am also urging the GPs and the HSE to retain the service in its current format.”NOWDOC STAFF WILL BE MOVED TO BALLYBOFEY – DEAL COVERED BY CROKE PARK AGREEMENT was last modified: November 11th, 2011 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Martians Might Be Troglodytes

first_imgAccording to an article on Space.Com, Spirit and Opportunity aren’t going to find critters on the surface.  Since the surface is harsh because of radiation, a safer environment might be found in caves.  The discovery of soluble rock and methane is leading some to imagine that extensive caves might exist on Mars, and maybe that is where the methane is coming from.  Could methane emissions be a signature of life?  “The fact that you find methane does not mean you have to have life,” said Tobias Owen (U of Hawaii), one of the discoverers of methane on Mars (and also a member of the Huygens team).  “You have to be very careful.”  John Rummel agrees.  He’s a NASA planetary protection advisor tasked with avoiding undue contamination of Mars (and, conversely, of Earth from Martian organisms).  Apparently smarting from the fallout of the over-hyped Martian Meteorite saga of 1996, he said, “It’s an art of managing uncertainty.  The public deserves an honest agency.”We deserve it, but we’re not getting it.  All the rhetoric about water indicating life and methane indicating life is giving NASA a bad name, at least among logically-minded people.  Water is to life what iron is to a city.  Cities need iron, but the element does not imply the other.  Life is characterized by functional information – specified complexity – not the basic elements of which it is composed.  Neither does finding earth-life in extreme environments imply it originated there by evolution, and astrobiologists know this.  The public deserves an honest agency.(Visited 8 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more
