TOUCH A HIT ON FOX SPORTS

first_imgIn recent weeks a package of the 2006 NTL Mens, Womens and Mixed Open was shown on Fox TV. This was a great step forward for Touch as we have been off the main-stream television screens for quite a number of years.TFA would like to thank all of the state offices, who contributed financially to assist TFA in producing the package and having it shown. To date, the feedback has been extremely positive, with Touch fans Australia-wide complimenting the footage that was shown, as well as the clips introducing the sport and basic elements of the game. The success of the package was a credit to all of the staff, team management and players, who worked hard to ensure the sport was shown in a professional light. There was certainly no shortage of highlights for the package, with the Sydney Mets Mixed side putting on a touchdown show, the Womens Open final between the Mets and Sharks proving a very tight affair and the Mens Open final giving us one of the best NTL finals to date.(The Garry Sonda through-the-legs special was definitely one for the highlights reel!)With FOX Sports being available in around 1.75 million homes and over 6,000 commercial venues, the potential of the showing to increase awareness and knowledge of the sport is huge.Following on from the success of the showing in Australia, the package was also picked up by ABC Asia Pacific, who will be showing the package in up to 50-60 Asia Pacific nations in coming weeks. The package has already been shown in Hong Kong and here is a list of countries that may view the NTL Touch Football package in the future:Cook IslandsFijiFrench PolynesiaGuamSamoaKiribatiSolomon IslandsNauruNew CaledoniaNiueMarianasPalauPapua New GuineaTahitiTokelauTongaTuvaluVanuatuWallis and FutunaAfghanistanArmeniaAzerbaijanBangladeshBhutanBruneiCambodiaPeoples Republic of ChinaEast TimorFederated States of MicronesiaHong KongIndia IndonesiaKazakhstanLaosNepalSri-LankaTibetTurkmenistanUzbekistanJapanMacauMalaysiaMongoliaMyanmar (Burma) North KoreaPakistanPhilippinesSingaporeSouth KoreaRepublic of China (Taiwan)ThailandVietnam.TFA will be selling copies of the 2006 NTL package on DVD in the coming weeks, so if you missed out on seeing the package or want to see it again, keep an eye on the TFA website for when they’re available and for how to place your order.last_img read more

first_imgKareem Walker poses with Heisman Trophy.Kareem Walker is the No. 1 running back in the 2016 and he’s committed to play at Ohio State. You probably don’t remember him committing, Buckeye fans, because he made his pledge during your team’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game. It’s understandable. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound back out of Wayne, New Jersey, is ranked the No. 9 player in the country by 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings. He’s talented enough to become one of the best running backs the Buckeyes have ever had – and they’ve had plenty. Former Ohio State greats Archie Griffin (1974, ’75) and Eddie George (1995) both won the Heisman Trophy during their time in Columbus. Could Walker become the third running back in Ohio State history to win the award (or, possibly, the fourth if Ezekiel Elliot takes it home in 2015)? The term wasn’t received well.)Bruce SpenceSpecial to APTN National NewsEvery once in a while the phrase “Indian Time” rears its ugly head in discussions around the clean water coolers of modern day work places. Except in Aboriginal organizations. Ain’t nobody got time for that. For those of you who’ve never heard it, Indian Time means….in the vernacular of construction company foremen from bygone eras…. those damned Indians are always late.Just saying, that’s what it meant in my world.Kind of a racist thing to say though when it’s a human foible present in every people and culture the world over. How ignorant is it to attach the colloquialism to an entire people when there are individuals in every race in every country who couldn’t be on time for their own funerals if their life depended on it. I am one of those by the way.One of my best friends and mentors, an ex-military Saulteaux guy from Pine Creek, hated to be late and he never was. 10 minutes early was too late for him.As someone younger and wiser than me pointed out, we never had clocks. Alan Major joins Ohio State mens basketball team in noncoaching role Kyle

Former Charlotte head coach Alan Major, right, hired by Ohio State. Courtesy: TNSAfter three seasons of not meeting expectations, it appears Ohio State coach Thad Matta is bringing back another member of his staff that brought him some of his best teams.Alan Major is returning to Matta’s staff for the 2016 season, but this time in a new role. The team said he will serve the role of director of recruiting and player development.Major has spent plenty of time working under Matta. He was an assistant coach to Matta at Xavier University from 2001 to 2004 and went on to OSU to coach under Matta again. From 2004 to 2010, Major helped to recruit and develop big men. He left after the 2010 season to serve as the head coach of UNC-Charlotte for five seasons where he accumulated a career record of 67-70 before leaving the team due to health issues during the 2014-2015 season.Prior to his time with Matta, Major served as an assistant coach at Cal Lutheran from 1992-95, Pacific from 1995-98, Southern Illinois from 1998-99 and Pacific again from 1999-2000.“Alan has many skills and talents above and beyond those he’s utilized as a coach over the years,” Matta said in an email. “I want him to help us develop a complete and well-rounded student-athlete. Alan is the perfect fit for this position.”Major is no stranger to developing players. In his vast college basketball career spanning 23 years serving as either assistant coach or head coach, he has coached such players as former OSU first round NBA selections Greg Oden, Mike Conley and Evan Turner as well as former Xavier star and first rounder David West and Pacific No. 1 overall selection Michael Olowokandi. Nearly everywhere he has gone, Major has found success. While Major worked with Matta both at Xavier and OSU, he contributed to a 234-77 record in his nine years. He reached the NCAA a total of seven times, once at Xavier reaching the Final Four (2004) and once going as far as the national championship game (2007). In 2008, the pair won the National Invitation Tournament title.Along with Major, OSU announced that former manager and graduate assistant Kyle Davis has been promoted to the video coordinator position vacated after Jake Diebler left for an assistant coaching job at Vanderbilt.Davis served as recruiting coordinator for the summer until Major was hired. As a graduate assistant in 2015-16, Davis helped the coaching staff with coordinating recruiting visits and preparing nearly all video footage used for game preparation. This is his first coaching job. read more

Commentary Bengals looking to bounce back against the New England Patriots

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green, right, is stopped after catching a pass for a short gain by Cleveland Browns defensive back Joe Haden at FirstEnergy Stadium Sunday, Sept. 29. The Browns won, 17-6.Credit: Courtesy of MCTThe Cincinnati Bengals return home to face the undefeated New England Patriots this Sunday in a game that has great implications. If the Bengals pull out the win, last week’s loss to the Cleveland Browns will be viewed as an anomaly. But with a loss and perhaps another weak outing by quarterback Andy Dalton, the Bengals may find themselves searching for ways to salvage their season. At home, the Bengals (2-2) are undefeated and performed much better against the pass than they have on the road. They have held Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks in check, forcing Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers into a two interception performance and limiting Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers to 278 yards of total offense.Meanwhile on the road, Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears and Brian Hoyer of the Browns were able to find the holes in Cincinnati’s secondary to help their respective teams win. Bengals fans can only hope that this pattern continues in week five when they face three-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady. However, the Patriots, though undefeated, have question marks of their own. Brady began the season with a significantly inexperienced group of receivers who have struggled to stay on the same page as their quarterback. But the wide receivers have shown recent signs of improvement as both Kenbrell Thompkins (127 yards receiving) and Julian Edelman (118 yards receiving) had strong games last week against the Atlanta Falcons. On defense, New England must deal with the loss of defensive tackle Vince Wilfork who sustained a season-ending injury (achilles) against Atlanta. Wilfork is key to the Patriots’ ability to stop the run. Over the last five seasons, New England is ranked ninth against the rush with Wilfork on the field and dead last without him.But the Bengals cannot concern themselves with their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses at this point. They have the talent to beat almost any team in the league, as evidenced by their comeback victory over the Packers. But when they fail to execute on offense, they are capable of losing to any opponent, including a team depleted of its starting quarterback, just like the Browns. While Hoyer gave an inspired performance, Cincinnati’s lack of offense was the biggest factor in the loss. The Bengals converted only four of 14 third down attempts against Cleveland and gained only 16 first downs. Meanwhile, the Falcons lost to the Patriots in week four despite picking up 26 first downs. If offensive coordinator Jay Gruden cannot make the proper adjustments and Dalton continues to miss open receivers, the promise that surrounded the Bengals before the season will quickly vanish. read more

Orange completes the acquisition of the mobile operator Tigo in the Democratic

first_imgAdvertisement Less than three months after signing an agreement with Millicom, Orange announced today that it has completed the acquisition of 100% of the mobile operator Tigo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).The mobile market in the DRC is undergoing significant growth and is currently the largest mobile market in Central and West Africa, after Nigeria. Take today’s key issues and create meaningful content for your customers. 4 min read Image credit: Will Heath | NBC | Getty Images February 27, 2017 Whatever you think of his politics, President Donald Trump has been great for comedy. Saturday Night Live is having a revival of popularity as its hard-hitting satire and perfectly casted actors — like Melissa McCarthy’s hilarious portrayal of White House spokesman Sean Spicer and Alec Baldwin as Trump — speaks to the country’s latest concerns about the various chaos and insanity emerging from Trump’s administration. Related: Is Vocally Opposing President Trump Risky Business? What can other content creators and marketers learn from SNL’s recent resurgence of Trump-related success? Seize upon key issues and crucial conversations.Trump’s presidency is the biggest story in recent political history, so this is an easy one for SNL. Everyone in the national media is talking about Trump all the time. But what about your business or your industry? What are the key issues that your customers are worried about and focusing on? Don’t assume that you know the answer. Use Twitter as a listening tool to see which keywords and topics are trending for your industry and your key audiences. Then you can create content that speaks directly to those areas of concern.  Slay sacred cows.SNL is not afraid to be irreverent, even offensive, toward the most powerful people in Washington. What is the biggest controversial topic/issue in your industry? What are the things that people in your industry should be saying? What stands should they be taking that they are not? What is the elephant in the room or the emperor with no clothes? Find these opportunities and create content that speaks to those issues. Build a reputation as a truth teller. Related: What to Consider Before Your Brand Takes a Stand PoliticallyRally your base.SNL is probably not going to win many fans among Trump’s supporters, but they’re focusing instead on getting a bigger share of fans from the large percentage of Americans who are opposed to Trump. Don’t be afraid to be controversial or even polarizing. Sometimes it’s better to speak passionately to the people who are most enamored with your brand, even at the risk of not appealing to lots of other people. SNL is rallying a big audience of people who are not Trump supporters — and SNL’s ratings are up! In content marketing on TV, it’s often better to have a passionate and lucrative niche following than to fail to appeal to a mainstream mass audience that no longer really exists. Make unconventional choices. McCarthy was cast as White House spokesman Sean Spicer — and her performance was brilliant — but the choice of a woman to play Spicer was also oddly inspired and unexpected. Don’t be afraid to be unconventional. Keep trying new things and elevating new voices within your company. Your content strategy doesn’t have to look like the usual suspects. But stay focused on quality.SNL is having a resurgence of popularity as people tune in to try to get some laughs out of our latest national political news, but even Trump’s biggest opponents won’t want to watch if the show’s not funny. SNL can’t become just a strident platform for anti-Trump statements; it still needs to be a comedy show first and foremost that makes people laugh. In the same way, content marketing can’t be just a stunt or a gimmick or push an agenda. You need to have a foundation of insight and quality that keeps people coming back. Related: How 10 Brands Thoughtfully Chimed In on President Trump’s InaugurationWho knows what will happen during Trump’s presidency, but SNL is leading the way for a vibrant, engaging, no-holds-barred national conversation about politics. With HomePod Apple Just Wants to Shake Things Up for Now

first_img Apple’s HomePod speaker is a depth charge dropped into the ocean where Google Home and Amazon Echo sail. At $349, it’s not going to dominate the voice assistant world. But for Apple to achieve its goals, the HomePod just needs to keep the waters rough enough to make its competitors seasick. There are a bunch of weird things about Apple’s HomePod announcement. First, Apple doesn’t like to announce products six months in advance. And while the iPhone and iPad are expensive, they’re not double the prices of rivals. The HomePod is also being sold as a music device above all else rather than virtual assistant. One interpretation is that Apple isn’t going after competing voice assistants but the midrange, wireless multi-room speaker market; the domain of companies like Sonos, Bose and Logitech. Yes, those companies have $200 options, but the Sonos Play:3 costs $299, and the Bose SoundTouch 20 costs $350. Those companies have been slow to adopt the kinds of flexible voice capabilities we’ve seen on Echo and Google Home, and they tend to appeal to a higher-end consumer who thinks the Amazon and Google products look and sound cheap. But I think Apple’s strategy is a little trickier than that. The midrange speaker market is in fact ripe for disruption, and I think Apple’s correct to assume that people who have expensive speakers probably have an iPhone. But by announcing the HomePod six months in advance, Apple’s also trying to draw developer attention away from Alexa and Google Home, making sure that it’s in second, not third place in the eventual war of the voice assistants.Second place is a very comfortable place for Apple, because it’s focused on profit share rather than market share. In a battle between Apple and Amazon, it’s easy enough to see a repeat of the iOS/Android war, where Echo speakers eat up the bottom end of the market while Apple reaps profits at the top. Amazon actually wouldn’t mind this, as (like Google with Android, but not like Android phone makers) its business isn’t dependent on making a profit from hardware.Developers can only handle two platforms.Platforms need developers, and we’ve seen over and over that the tech world is capable of supporting two — not three — platforms in most areas. On the desktop, it’s Mac and Windows, not Linux. On phones, it’s Apple and Android, not BlackBerry 10 or Windows Phone. On high-end tablets, increasingly, it’s Windows and iOS, with Android shunted down to the low end. Sure, the third platform often manages to hang on as a niche, but the two major ones dominate the market. Developers just don’t seem to have the resources to split their attention more broadly.Right now there are three players in voice assistants: Apple, Google and Amazon. Apple is coming late to the game, but it understands the value of not being third. And as it implied by focusing on music in its presentation, SiriKit is way behind the competition in attracting developers right now.Apple needs to get SiriKit into the conversation and to make sure Google and Amazon don’t lock down voice-assistant developers, which could definitely happen in the next six months. By announcing the HomePod now, Apple throws a bit of confusion into that community; should developers keep their powder dry?Google is likely to suffer more than Amazon from this, because Amazon has a lot of third-party partners and an already vibrant developer community. Look at our list of Alexa skills vs. our list of Google Home voice actions: Google is just getting started here. Google’s speaker also sounds better, and costs more, than Amazon’s hot-selling Echo Dot, putting it in a little more danger from Apple’s higher-end product. This doesn’t mean that Apple’s HomePod is going to be a best-seller. Sure, it could be the next Apple Hi-Fi, an expensive audio accessory that ends up being overlooked for better third-party products. But it keeps the waters roiled, and keeps the Google/Amazon duopoly from fixing in place. When developers can only focus on two platforms, that means at least Apple has a chance. Online intervention lowers mothers intentions to visit primary care clinician for respiratory

first_img Source:American Academy of Family Physicians Reviewed by James Ives, M.Psych. (Editor)May 15 2019Visits to the doctor for a respiratory tract infection can lead to unnecessary antibiotic prescribing, but an online intervention with real-time information on locally circulating viruses may reduce mothers’ intentions to visit their primary care doctor.A representative sample of mothers in the United Kingdom (N=806) was randomized to receive the online intervention, including locally enhanced influenza statistics, symptom information, and home-care advice, either before (intervention group) or after (control group) responding to a hypothetical respiratory tract infection illness scenario.Participants in the intervention group had lower intentions to visit the doctor than those in the control group when adjusted for demographic and clinical characteristics. Intervention material was generally well received, with information on symptoms and when to visit the primary care doctor rated as more important than information on locally circulating viruses. If the intervention were rolled out widely, the authors surmise that it would have impact, given the high rates at which parents of children with respiratory tract infections visit primary care clinicians. The authors call for research to evaluate intervention effects on observed behavioral outcomes in real-world settings and examine long-term effects and cost-effectiveness.last_img read more

Imec and partners show the first comparison between an EUVL-SIS and a standard EUVL patterning process demonstrating the benefits of SIS regarding roughness, nano-failure mitigation and local variability. When adding an SIS step during a full pattern transfer in a TiN layer, imec observed a improvement of 60 percent for intrafield local critical dimension uniformity (LCDU) and 10 percent for line edge roughness compared to a reference process. These patterning enhancements are inherent properties of SIS. Also, the number of nanobreaks – a typical stochastic nano-failure – is reduced by at least one order of magnitude. Results were confirmed in an industrial relevant use case, showing reduced defectivity in a logic chip with a 20 percent smaller tip-to-tip critical dimension at a similar LCDU as a standard EUVL process. The improvement SIS showcases on all parameters is indebted to imec’s EUV lithography and metrology infrastructure and recent advancements in the field of process control, material and etch research. The current work brings these results and competences together in one paper, establishing SIS as a significant EUV patterning enhancement technique. The progress on each of the integrated aspects and SIS will be presented on the SPIE Advanced Lithography conference in multiple papers. The work was performed in collaboration with ASM and ASML.”The recent achievements with SIS for EUV lithography were enabled by the progress imec and its partners have made in various domains such as materials science, deposition, imaging, and metrology. This is a great example of how the integration of knowledge and combined efforts from multiple domains and ecosystem partners will enable a path to scale to N3 and beyond,” said Greg McIntyre, director of advanced patterning at imec. his week, at the SPIE Advanced Lithography conference 2019, imec, a world-leading research and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies, demonstrates the positive impact of sequential infiltration synthesis (SIS) on the EUVL (extreme ultra-violet lithography) patterning process. Kamal Nath govt would even transfer land sky BJP on transfer of

first_img Next Asian News International BhopalJuly 13, 2019UPDATED: July 13, 2019 12:22 IST Three sniffers, one each from Chhindwara, Satna and Betul have been shifted to CM Kamal Nath’s house in Bhopal. (File photo: PTI)In a move that has invoked sharp criticism from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, the Congress-led Madhya Pradesh government has issued an order transferring 46 police dog handlers across the state along with their canines.According to the order, handlers of tracker, sniffer and narco dogs from 23 Battalion Dog Squad have been given new postings in different districts of the state and have been ordered to rejoin immediately along with their dogs.In the latest postings, three sniffers, one each from Chhindwara, Satna and Betul have been shifted to Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s house in Bhopal. The latest step of transferring the dog-squad has drawn scathing criticism from rival BJP which is using the opportunity to attack the government.Taking a dig at the MP government, the BJP’s state vice president Vijesh Lunawat tweeted, “The Great Kamal Nath government did not spare even dogs from the transfer business. Dog squad transferred in Madhya Pradesh.”BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma invoked the issue of transfer of dogs to allege that the Congress government would even sell land and sky if they could.”Congress government should have at least left the dogs. The police department has transferred dogs en masse. If it was possible for Kamal Nath government and someone was ready to pay the price, they would even transfer land and sky,” Sharma said in a tweet in Hindi. On Friday, the BJP cornered the Madhya Pradesh government for erroneously issuing transfer order of a ‘Sarpanch’ instead of Panchayat Secretary.Referring to a July 5 order of Rewa District Panchayat, Devtalab MLA Girish Gautam said that instead of transferring Rewa district panchayat Shivpura’s in-charge Vibha Dwivedi, Sarpanch Bihari Lal Patel was transferred.”The minister has become so busy that he has transferred a Sarpanch instead of Panchayat Secretary,” he said.It may be noted that a Sarpanch is elected by people and is not entitled to be transferred by the state government. The BJP has in the past alleged that a “transfer racket” was flourishing in the government under Chief Minister Kamal Nath.”A transfer racket is flourishing in the Congress government under Kamal Nath and officials are at the centre of it.
