Darren Sammy has been sacked as captain by the St Lucia Stars after a run of six matches without a victory in the Hero 2017 Caribbean Premier League.Shane Watson, the former Australia all-rounder, has been given the leadership role and will be assisted by his new deputy Marlon Samuels.Remains an integral part of teamA press release from the Stars said Sammy remained an integral part of the team. Barring the results, Sammy has had a good tournament, scoring a valiant fifty against the Barbados Tridents, at the end of which the opposition captain Kieron Pollard joked he was thankful for the rain stopping Sammy before he could do further damage. They were then upstaged in the final over by Guyana Amazon Warriors – Sammy nearly defended seven runs – and most recently lost to Jamaica Tallawahs after bossing the majority the match.Fresh thinkingTo “incorporate some fresh thinking as the team completes this season and builds for 2018,” the Stars management said it has decided to end Sammy’s stint at the helm after 40 matches across five seasons.“If it were not for Daren, St Lucian cricket would not have the standing it does in world cricket and his ability to lead both on and off the field remains unquestioned,” owner Jay Pandya said. “However, after the results that we have seen over the first half of the 2017 Hero CPL, a change is needed to freshen things up as we look to win the remaining four fixtures this season.”Watson has excellent credentials in T20 cricket, with 5,691 runs and 194 wickets and has led teams in the Indian Premier League and the Big Bash League.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that it is investigating an approach made to Zimbabwe captain Graeme Cremer to fix parts of the recent two-Test series against the Windies.Reports suggested that Cremer had rejected an approach said to be made by a former member of the Zimbabwe Cricket board prior to the first Test on October 21.Cremer reported the matter to Zimbabwe Head Coach Heath Streak. It was also reported to the Zimbabwe Cricket Board and subsequently to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the ICC.“The ICC can confirm that there is an ACU ongoing investigation in Zimbabwe and because there is an ongoing investigation, I cannot share any further details,” said an ICC spokesperson in reference to the matter. The Test, played at Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo, saw the Windies win by an innings and 17 runs inside four days.Zimbabwe, however, hung on for a draw in the second Test at the same venue, leaving the Caribbean side with a 1-0 series win.
A post-obesity-prevention campaign survey has found that most Jamaicans attribute their poor health to sugary drink consumption.Ongoing talks with drink manufacturersHealth Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton speaking at the release of the ‘Are You Drinking Yourself Sick?’ survey results, said discussions have already started with manufacturers with who distribute drinks to schools about the steps to be taken to reduce the sugar content before the implementation of the new policy in January 2019.According to the survey, seven out of 10 Jamaicans attributed negative health impact to sugary-drink consumption and that approximately eight out of 10 respondents were concerned about the effects of sugary drinks on their children’s health.Easy access to sugary drinks at schoolsThe survey found that there was also evidence indicating that children had easier access to sugary drinks at school, when compared to their homes or other places outside of their homes. The survey also found that approximately 54 per cent of respondents agreed that children had most sugary drinks at school with approximately 83 per cent of them strongly supported policies on the provision of healthy food and beverages in schools.Tax on sugary drinks supportedApproximately 71 per cent of Jamaicans interviewed support the imposition of a tax on sugary drinks with eight out of 10 persons agreeing that the tax revenue should be spent on programs that reduce obesity, especially among children.Warning labelsAt least 91 per cent of respondents agreed that there should be clear warning labels on the front of food and beverage packages to alert consumers when products are high in sugar, salt or fats.Tufton said manufacturers were key stakeholders that the government wants to see producing juices that are more fruit-based and healthy for children.“There are three months to go (before the policy is implemented in January). In the meantime, we have been having discussions with a number of the critical stakeholders, including manufacturers.“I think it’s important that the dialogue continue. I think its key for the behavioral change that we seek to include all concerned, because this campaign, this public advocacy, is not just about behavioral change for our children, our teachers, our vendors and our policymakers; it’s also about behavioral change for those who supply the goods that we would like to consume,” Tufton said. He also said he is encouraging manufacturers to embrace the approach the Ministry of Health has been taking, as the goal is to reduce obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among children. “It is good business to say to your consuming public that we have a product that’s good for you, and frankly speaking, a drink that contains four times the daily recommended amount of sugar cannot be good for you.”
HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC -Forecasters have warned Bermuda that strengthening Tropical Storm Humberto is a potential threat to the island after it moved to the north of the Bahamas. As of 12 PM Sunday, the storm, which is due to reach hurricane strength later in the day, is expected to be around 230 miles west of Bermuda by midday on Wednesday as a Category 2 Hurricane. The Miami-based National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said the storm, packing 65 mph winds with higher gusts, was moving north at seven miles per hour, but is expected to make a sharp turn to the northeast on Monday. On Sunday afternoon, Humberto was located 180 miles north-northwest of Abaco, which suffered loss of life and massive damage earlier in the month from Hurricane Dorian.“Additional strengthening is forecast through Wednesday, and Humberto is expected to become a hurricane by tonight,” the NHC said in its latest advisory on Sunday.Bermuda’s Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) has said it has begun to monitor the track of Humberto.Minister of National Security Wayne Caines said: “The EMO is prepared and stands ready to convene should the weather system’s forecasted track pose a threat to Bermuda.“I take this opportunity to remind the public that Bermuda is in the midst of hurricane season. I strongly encourage the public to revisit your business, household and family preparedness plans.”The Bermuda Weather Service said Humberto would bring dangerous sea conditions to the island ahead of it.Humberto lashed already devastated parts of the Bahamas with heavy rain and strong winds which hampered recovery efforts after Dorian, a Category 5 hurricane, tore into the island chain’s northwestern islands with 185 mph winds, killing at least 50 people and leaving thousands homeless.

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has rekindled his feud with former club manager Jose Mourinho after he criticised the current Manchester United over his treatment of Egyptian star Mohammed Salah.Salah found playing opportunities hard to come by while he was at Chelsea under Mourinho and that prompted him to leave Stamford Bridge for Italy.Speaking earlier ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Salah’s Liverpool at Anfield. Hazard revealed that the former AS Roma and Fiorentina star was unlucky not to stay longer at Chelsea. In his words, Hazard said: “He was unlucky not to get longer (at Chelsea). He didn’t get the chance — maybe because of the manager.“He has quality but in this period I remember it was me, Willian and Oscar, so for him it was not easy. But he’s a top player for sure.“In training he did everything. Even in the games when he was playing, sometimes he scored goals, so we know the quality he has.” he further added.Speaking further, Hazard said he is still in contact with Salah. The Belgian captain said: “We are still in contact together.”“He’s a top, top, top player.“It is always good to play against a friend. It’s good to have friends in this world because in football you can’t have a lot of friends.“We speak about everything: life, football. I will speak with him this week.“I want to put pressure on him. I want him to do well but not a lot because we want to win.” he concluded.Salah has been in scintillating form since moving to Liverpool from Italian side AS Roma in the summer. He has scored 14 goals in all competitions. Related

A London Baby Sponsor (7 February – Café de Paris Leicester Square), Blake details to SBC readers what topics, debate and discussion 2017’s industry agenda.____________What new products and services will Secure Trading be bringing to market for 2017? Bryan Blake: The gaming world continues to change and evolve and, here at Secure Trading, we recognise this by always bringing our customers the latest in modern payments. At the ICE Totally Gaming event this year, the modus operandi is no different, as we bring to the market a new innovative payment method called ‘Cash to Code’. Following an exclusive partnership with Funanga, the innovators of this solution, we’re opening up the online gaming market to the most universal payment method; cash.Additionally, we also offer an instant SEPA payout service – ensuring that no matter where you are in Europe – you can access funds and winnings seamlessly. What do you think will be the industry buzzword this year and why? BB: All heads are turning to the US at the moment. After Trump’s election and his controversial policies already filtering through Government, the US gaming industry is also likely to be affected. Above all else, it’s a matter of managing changes as these have a knock on effect in the UK.Which new technology, service or consumer trend will have the biggest impact on the igaming industry this year? BB: There is often a gap between technological developments and consumer adoption. It’s only when these two factors reach an equilibrium that real change takes place. For 2017, I think it’ll be the market penetration of wearables and consequential move of gaming to these devices.Virtual Reality (VR) is also likely to really make its mark in 2017. A number of VR platforms were launched in 2016, from HTC’s Vive to Google’s Daydream and the Playstation VR means that VR is now in the home; this will be a catalyst to consumer adoption in 2017.SBC: Why have you chosen to begin 2017 by sponsoring the London Baby Party? BB: Together we achieve more – that’s the thought behind our sponsorship of the London Baby party. It’s all the movers and shakers within the industry fleshing out ideas to decipher between the light-bulb moment and a damp squib. If this involves an alcoholic beverage in the Café de Paris – then all the better!SBC: Finally, where can people expect to find you at ICE? BB: Speaking of a meeting of minds – I’ll be on the stand during the day, and most likely in the bar at night!___________________Bryan Blake – Head of Gaming – Secure Trading
